According to the British Chiropractic Association, ‘Chiropractic is a primary health care profession that specialises in the diagnosis, treatment and management of musculoskeletal complaints which include problems with the joints especially related to the spine.’ Chiropractors are best known for treatment and prevention of back and neck pain.

Chiropractic treatment mainly involves movement of joints in the spine or other areas of the body that are not moving properly; via safe, often gentle and specific manipulation. Apart from manipulation, chiropractors may use a variety of techniques including ice, heat, ultrasound, exercise, ultrasound and acupuncture as well as advice about posture and lifestyle.

The title of chiropractor is protected by government legislation and to attain this level of education a chiropractor is required to have completed a 4 to 5 year Master’s degree.
